Studio Barn Door

My husband is beginning to think that we're living in barn ~

especially after building these barn doors for me in the guest room
back in February,

and these prairie pink shutters in the kitchen and master bathroom
in May.

Not that living in a barn would be such a bad thing.
I actually wouldn't mind it at all.

I love the sweet fragrance of hay,
the dusty, sweaty scent of horses,
the molasses-like smell of grain...
and I don't even mind mucking stalls.

So, when the Husband saw an old barn door (a recent antique market find)
leaning up against the house this weekend
with me holding a scrub brush in one hand and Murphy's Oil Soap in the other ~
the eyebrows went up
and I got...
"The Look".

You know which one I mean, don't you?
That bemoaning facial expression that silently translates to,
"Oh no....NOW what?"

[Well, to tell you the truth,
even though I still get "The Look" from time to time,
since there was a magazine shoot here at Heaven's Walk a couple months ago
(more on that soon, I promise),
"The Look" is no longer accompanied by a ginormous groan,
which is a very good thing.
Ginormous groans can get very irritating after a while.]

I think he's finally trusting my instincts about styling this old farmhouse
and taking each of my crazy ideas in stride.
No groans.
No suggestions.
No squabbling.
How nice!

So, after I helped him wash both of our SUVs,
(favours go along way, don't you know)
I asked him to help me lug this sweet beauty inside.

He managed about 1/2 of "The Look",
quickly squelched it,
then tentatively said,
"Where do you want it?"

We leaned her up against one of the French doors leading into my studio,
pushed my workbench back in place....
and it was instant

Even The Husband's eyebrows went up ~
in a very good way.

The pale, faded sea foam green brightened the room and added shabby prairie texture.

One single happy thought kept galloping through my mind ~

"There's a barn door in my studio!"

Full of chips, cracks, and holes,
she is a perfect fit.

Of course,
I spent the rest of the afternoon stroking it,
hanging things on it,
doing the "dash and turn",
asking Maizie if she liked it,
and taking way too many photos.

It will be the perfect place to display and photograph my dream catchers,
wind catchers, and large rosaries...

...or even hang my hat.

Maizie, however,
was totally unimpressed with it all.

But Momma is one happy prairie chick!

Closet place is around 2 hours away. Love, love these. They add so much character and charm. Can't wait to hear the details of the photo shoot.

  20. Hi sweet Prairie Chic sister... I am in LOVE with your barn door!... it is so incredibly beautiful and is one of those "meant to be" things in life that happens... for it was certainly meant to be in your lovely studio... and yes, it's the perfect place to photo your dreamcatchers, windcatchers, rosaries and such... and also the perfect spot to hang your hat... I get "the look" every time I come home with something new (old), but it seems "the look" doesn't last quite as long these days as Jack knows I am going to keep right on a doin' it!... he actually loves many of the vintage pieces that find their way home with me... it's just a matter of space here... maybe we need a bigger house, tee hee hee!... Maizie looks so sweet and content... I know she loves the new barn door too and the only look our little fur babies give us is the look of love... I know you are ecstatic over your new door and I am sooo happy for you!... much love, xoxo Julie Marie
