Once upon a time, two people met and fell in love.
They took every smile and every tear,
a few differences of opinion,
some major triumphs,
and several minor miracles,
and turned them into
something very beautiful...
They loved what they made together.
Let me tell you about this wonderful man I married.
He's a snowplower on the coldest of mornings,
who tolerates the snow...as much as his wife hates it.
A strong and handsome lumberjack...
who patiently waits while his picky wife chooses the perfect Christmas tree.
He's the Pit Crew Chief for a snowmobile team...
And a farm boy raising vegetables in his organic garden...
who loves to grill, cook, and bake.
(And yes, I'll be the first to admit that I'm spoiled.)
My hubby is a self-taught brick layer...
who loves all creatures, big and small...
as much as his wife adores her 'kids'.
He's a devoted grandfather...
who is always ready to give wild rides on his golf cart.
He can fix anything with a motor in it...
but isn't always the best role model according to Grandma.
So he's sometimes sent to the crate for a "time out".
He's a godfather who proudly wore the hat of Master of Ceremonies
at his goddaughter and godson's weddings...but was so exhausted when he got home, he had to take a nap with Toby.
The fish call to him wherever there's water...
but he can't wait to kick back with a Rolling Rock on his favorite island.
A loyal chauffeur to his beach-crazed wife...
who loves hanging out with him in the sun...
until her feet are toasty brown....
and his are burnt to a crisp.
We lift our glasses in celebration...
(and we'll even share a piece of our favorite key lime pie with you...)
as we are grateful and feel blessed for 26 years of married life,
and look forward to 26+ years more.
To the friend I want, and the husband I need and love...
Happy Anniversary, honey -
I love you.
