Bohemian Rug Love

My obsession
addiction to
love
for deep colored vintage rugs continues to grow.

After nabbing a great deal ($40!) on one at
the Allegan Antique Market in August for my office,
winning one on eBay for my bathroom,
I needed just one more.....
for now.

Yep...can you say "obsession"?

*sigh.....*

I had expected this one to be beautifully faded and thin like the other ones I have,
with spots worn from decades of being walked on ~
but was instead it was pleasantly thick and plush and in great shape.
After I laid it out in the living room,
I realized how wonderfully it warmed up the room
- as well as my toes -
which will be so nice for the cold season ahead.

Floral pillow slips:  Ticking & Toile

The dark burgandy, navy blue, bright pink, and deep turquoise patterns in it
delighted my eyes when I unrolled it and laid it beneath the coffee table.
I loved the way it looked under my other obsession ~ my weekly pink and purple roses.
This whole mixing-colors-and-patterns thing that I've recently discovered
is just making my soul sing.
It's really kind of daring for the way I'm used to decorating.
I've never been much a color-gal until recently.
This one is bringing me so much happiness and satisfaction in this old house.

So, of course, I went overboard taking photos of it.  :)

I was doing a little research on Turkish prayer rugs,
and discovered that this one is most likely a Persian Sarouk rug.
More colorful and a much different design than the other prayer rugs I have.

See how you CAN combine colors and patterns?
The burgandy is picked up not only in the paisley throw draped over the tri-fold screen,
but also in the Rachel Ashwell pillow slips.
And even though there are three different patterns,
they mix softly because of the common color.

Even the roses pick up the colors in the rug.

My roses for the week ♥

I'm still on the prowl for some old, white, chippy planks to lay on top of my glass-door coffee table.
I'm ready for a change there, and want it to look a little more rustic.
More Romantic Prairie-ish.
I'm thinking a visit to Lowe's may be in order next week.

Home, sweet, shabby chic, bohemian home.
I'm lovin' it.

Bring on the cold weather.
At least my toes will be happy!

  15. Before I scrolled down, I was thinking, "That looks like a Hammedan prayer rug." But, I guess it's a Sarouk. Either way, it will last forever and they are impervious to cat claws! ~ Maureen

  17. Uhhhhhhh.... how wonderful is that...omg, what a find! It's just amazing. So much patina, if you can say that about a rug. And, i agree, it would look so good to put some old raggedy beat up fabulous wood on top of the table. It's so cool to me how all those colors not only really work together, but just totally create the best feel to the room... wow!

  32. The little bits of pink and purple really seem to give it extra oomph and that picks up your flower colors so well. Nice idea to add that over your other rug. The layers really add a fullness to the room.
