Wyeth in My Kitchen

Good morning, my favorite decor divas!

See this beautiful, lonely little white wicker chair?

(Ok...so it may not look white in this photo, but trust me - it is.)

It called my name at the antique market.
She was sitting...all by herself...among other vintage items and bricabrac,
accompanied by a small square wicker table
(that I passed up and am now kicking myself for that crazy decision).

But upon her arrival back at my house, she was destined to become a chair of a different color.

"What?!" Hubby exclaimed with his jaw dropping to the floor.
"You're not keeping it white? What's going on?"

"Nope," I replied with a secret smile.  "You'll see..."

So my pretty "Wyeth Blue" chair was born.

Yeah, she's a little shy surrounded by all that creamy white in the kitchen.

But, oh....does she ever look beautiful sitting so unpretentious behind that French pitcher filled with blue delphinium.

After an hour of searching for THE perfect aqua blue (again, yes, I know), I was drawn to Benjamin Moore "Wyeth Blue".

Now, I know you remember me picking out "Sea Isle" at the local hardware store the last time I was looking for that perfect ocean-sea glass blue for my last wicker chair I transformed.

But THIS....THIS color was even MORE perfect.
Was that at all possible?

It has a tad more gray in the base, I think.  It's a duskier aqua.

She still needs a seat cushion, and I'm working on getting that made,
but she is feeling much more like the beach-chic chair she was meant to be.

Oh, and by the way, I have discovered, I believe - to be the easiest way to paint wicker with a paintbrush.

1.  Use a BIG 3" paintbrush.
2.  Glob that paint on like you're a pre-schooler.
3.  Slap it on like you're a French art-eest.
4. Pounce it into the cracks and crevices like there's no tomorrow.
5.  Sit back and realize that you are no longer bound to those spray cans of hideous crayon colors.

So, there sits my sweet little Wyeth chair, as we're now calling her -
the prettiest little chair in the kitchen.
Perfect ocean blue in a sea of white and sandy brown,
hiding behind a fluffy blue cloud of flowers...

waiting for you.

{Hugs} to you all!

  2. Oh Laurie! Perfect...perfect color! And I know firsthand what a job it is to paint wicker. You are a brave soul! I LOVE the color...even more than Sea Isle. I'll bet you are kicking yourself all over the place for NOT picking up that table too! Why, oh why, do we do that to ourselves...I think the $$$ get in the way sometimes and then we think, Well, heck...I could save it by not buying ....whatever- Anyway, you did good!

  7. Some people poo-poo wicker, and I think...are you crazy! I love it (in the right color and decor, of course). I was just given a perfect little black wicker table for my deck, and I love it. I love your chair more :) Everytime I see beach decor now I think of you :)
