Ruffles and Roses

Ruffles and roses have been slowly making their beautiful way into Heaven's Walk lately.

My heart has been being tugged more and more by the inspiration my eyes linger on over at

I find myself returning to their blogs again and again because I want to feel surrounded by

creamy white ruffles
soft, faded roses
candles
and
touches of pale purple and aqua.

Romance.
Sweetness.
Femininity.

So, for now...for the summer
(and probably longer...),
ruffles and roses have made a serene, romantic appearance throughout this old farmhouse.

With Tausha's gracious guidance,
I bleached some Simply Shabby Chic linens that were originally an oatmeal color.
I soaked them in lavender scented bleach for quite a few hours,
and then soaked them in a whitener/brightener for a couple hours
to remove any leftover yellowy tint.
The result was just what I was hoping for.

A beautiful, rich, creamy white cloud of linen ruffles.

A Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic ruffled tablecloth in "British Rose"
was draped casually over the end of the chaise.

A vintage looking basket tucked next to the chaise
was filled with faded floral scraps of fabric.
A handful of ranunculus and old roses
in faded, purpley pink were tossed on top.

A vintage cut glass vase on the coffee table, given to me by my grandmother, was filled with  purple hydrangeas, stock, and a sprig of lavender.

Heaven's Walk is smiling...
happily dressed in her summery wardrobe of
ruffles and roses.

  5. Gorgeous linens and amazing that you were able to get them so white. Your photos are so pretty and I am especially inspired by the grey shutters. I have two that I might just have to paint grey.

  8. Oh Laurie....Pretty, pretty, PRETTY! Gosh, I didn't know you could bleach an ecru type linen. I have an ecru crochet pillowcase and I'm going to try to bleach it. I'd love it WHITE, WHITE , WHITE. Thanks for the two blog references, too. I'm definitely going to check them out. Take care. Susan

  9. Tausha's home has touched me too in ways that will cost me more than I can afford but I no longer can get into my own bed without seeing the ruffles that are now "missing". I too am making changes because that kind of femininity I can no longer live without. Just today I went to Target to keep an eye on what they have so I can get something...and for now I have pure white fragrant Casablanca Lillies....roses will come again soon. Peonies next :D Gorgeous outcome and I am even further inspired to R.A. bedding.

Wow your whites are white. You need to share how they became so white and no yellow.
Roses tend to set the mood.

  29. Hello my gorgeous friend, what a beautiful romantic vignette! its wonderful that you had so much luck with the bleaching. I like the idea of adding the lavender as the bleach smell can be quite harsh cant it?! I am really loving lilac too, have been playing around with some lilac dye that doesnt realise that its supposed to be lilac... not bright purple!!! ugh!!! get it right one day!! must go and visit the blog you mentioned, the french country house.. take care gorgeous Laurie... hope you are enjoying your spring! 32. Everything looks so pretty, Lori. The flowers and colors are so soft and feminine. Very dreamy! I noticed in your previous post that your picnic basket is a Peterboro basket. I have a Peterboro basket that my husband got for me many years ago when he went on a business trip to New Hampshire. I have thought about painting it and now you have given me the courage to go for it. Yours looks wonderful!
